Wallow fire Evacuees get free phones

CellularOne supports Red Cross – As more and more evacuees registered at the Red Cross Evacuation Center at Blue Ridge High School, the need for more humanitarian supplies and support became quickly apparent.

The Red Cross issued an appeal for donations on Thursday June 9th, and once again local cellular phone operator CellularOne stepped up to the plate. Having already established a free WiFi hotspot for evacuees at the High School to communicate with their loved ones, CellularOne immediately donated several truck-fulls of basic supplies for the evacuees sheltering at the School. It was indeed a tremendous sight to witness one of our own local companies rolling up in their vans and unloading truck-fulls of supplies for those who have had to flee their homes. A small army of CellularOne employees and Red Cross volunteers clad in bright red shirts formed a human chain to deliver the much-need supplies to the Evacuation center.

Chief Operating Officer, Judd Hinkle was there with many of his staff unloading supplies and helping the evacuees. “These are our families,” said Hinkle “we are very much part of this community and within the CellularOne family, some of our own colleagues have had to evacuate their homes, so we feel this crisis very personally and want to make sure we are here to support our own.”

Red Cross volunteer Krist-Anah Watkins noted that “the response from local companies has been immediate and awesome, though CellularOne’s support for us here at the evacuation center has been incredible. So far they have provided free WiFi access, thousands of dollars of humanitarian supplies, handsets with free calls for our staff and many evacuees, storage facilities for all the goods we have and they continue to offer their help and support. We encourage everyone in the White Mountains area to support this incredible local company the way they have stepped up to support our communities”
